I'm using a compact fluorescent light. I don't remember wattage. Sorry. But it's a nice white light. Looks great

I don't see why it couldn't be outside on a COVERED porch. As far as light switch in your home, that's up to an electrician. I'm sure it can be done
Is this rated for damp locations? I'm interested in putting it in a bathroom.
It is for dry locations only.
Can you shorten the cord?
Yes, we had to and it was very simple. There are nuts holding the cord in place, you can move the canopy where you need it and cut. You obviously need to strip the wires when you get it to the length you need. :)
Can you shorten the hanging cord?
Yes, the cord can be shortened as you need.
The description says it comes with a chain, but the picture shows a solid post. Which is it?
